It Don't Take Much

And I wonder when the day will come, I do what I am

The epitome of watching life go by, only, why watch? We have this craving as human beings in the modern world, to be, to live; whilst embracing the greatest despair of mankind - a supposedly futile world. That is not where this article leads. In fact, I want to step away from the grievances of a futile logic, as that is depressing and a notion we need not delve into for a Tuesday night, nor a Wednesday morning. So, where to? Why write tonight, after 1,318 days without posting so much as a tear from this emphatic keyboard (Oh how I wish it was a pen I longed for...)? I guess, in all honesty, it is plea to the former self; that guy 1,318 days ago. We still got this, this curiosity for the world, for people, culture, love, and all the facets that make this universe one that can be seen for the goodness it does propose...the beauty in our differences. I think we have a hard time reminding ourselves of such. And you can't blame one for that, given the continued atrocities of human existence such as war, gender based violence, hunger, mass inequality, and the ever rising global digital divide heightened by the rise of AI. I am detracting again from my intention with this piece. "It Don't Take Much" is a single from The Something Specials, fronted by Taylor Olin, featured on their August 2026 debut album, Somewhere Up There. For me, it encompasses the reality and life cycle of the modern world, where you kind of just get caught up in the bustle of city life - not realising you are watching your life sail by whilst not paying close attention to what is happening around you or where you are headed. Take the lyrics below as case and point.
I'm a listener and a whistler, a builder and a fixer A lover and a wisher with a love for this world
But in the city, the people always goin'
They ever stop to wonder where they really are goin'
Who is to say what is going on in your life, in my life? You have agency, remember that. And yes, there will be times when others have complete agency over you, for better or for worse. Those are the times you live and learn from, you love and cry from; cherish and evolve from. There is a whole world out there, dying to meet you still.
I bring us back to what I started with, why watch? We have this remarkable trait as humans to distinguish ourselves as doers or talkers...of course there is the wise trifecta of the thinkers that can't go unnoticed. When you are combusting because you are trying to pull a little bit of everything from the trio, perhaps take a step back to realise we think, then do, or do we do and then think? When do we talk? I retract it all; don't listen to me! But you get the gist; we exist to think, to do, not as much as to talk but we give it the benefit of the doubt too. Don't waste a second of your time, don't watch your life go by; you can't and won't - do breathe, do laugh, do cry, do love...and do embrace the hardships and good times along the way.
And I wonder when the day will come, I do what I am
Stop wondering when the day will come, do what you are.
