The Privilege of a New Year

Life is what you make of it: 11 years after the end of the world and we are still out here, what's up 2023?

We are staring into another year. People begin to think about what they want to achieve this year and linger their thoughts upon what they didn't accomplish the year before. Scratch that. New year, better me. We don't get to accomplish many things that we may have wanted to at some stage in our past, but it's how we learn from these unrestricted thoughts that matter. Move forward, with more purpose and energy.
It is easier said than done, I get that. I have my ups and downs in my head, where some days are just better than others. These are just the facts. However, it is how we respond to the bad days that make the good one's that much better! Patience is key, hard work is necessary, and laughter is a must. What is the point in life if one cannot laugh at themselves every once and a while? It's 2023 for fuck's sake, you've done well to get here, be proud of yourself.
I get to quote Bob Marley because it's 2023 and why the fuck not, "the greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively". I wrote this down in my journal to start off the year, and although Bob has made his personal pronouns only reflect the wrath of men (it's 2023 Bob), I took solitude in the message at hand. We need to make money, that's just the hindrance of the capitalistic world crushing our souls, but we also need to share happiness and positivity. I am currently browsing the job market, trying to land the ideal career that can kickstart my professional life. It isn't easy, but then again I don't think it ever is? Whilst I ascertain this fixation about my life being on the right track if I land a great job, I am conscious of my attitude towards myself and other people. Focusing specifically on the 'other people' narrative, I try to orientate my interactions with a more loving or respectful approach. I don't always get this right, but the sentiment is there as it instils a strong foundation for shared happiness. Again, patience is key.
I guess, the purpose of this post is to encourage oneself to take the year 2023 by storm before the storm persistingly takes you. Solely for his impressive orator panache, I reiterate some values shared by Barrack Obama. He pointed out that change won't come to anyone who is waiting on someone else or some other time, that rather we are responsible for our own change - "We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek".
Do with that what you must, but just know that you only get one shot at life, so make this year worth every second.
Happy New Year!
